Floors We've Fallen For - Wood
Flooring is one of the most significant design decisions made for any room or home, and it can be tricky to know what type of flooring to choose. Flooring is not just a large investment, but the options are endless. Floors can have a huge impact on the overall feel and longevity of your home.
Over the next few weeks, we’re sharing what we’ve learned about flooring, the pros and cons for each flooring type and floors we love right now. This week is all about Wood!
Wood
If we say wood, we are talking about natural wood or engineered wood flooring and not laminates. Both offer absolute natural beauty, pleasing to touch and are warm underfoot. We love to use wood pretty much everywhere except spaces where it could get wet; such as bathrooms and utility/laundry or mudrooms. Although engineered wood offers more resistance to water, you should still keep this away from areas experiencing lots of humidity, changing temperatures and surface water.
If you're set on using wood in a kitchen, then it is worth bearing a few things in mind. Consider installing drip trays underneath sinks and dishwashers (under the units and behind the plinths) so, if there were a leak it won't get near the floor!
Wood is perfect for family rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dressing rooms, etc. Although natural wood is a pricier option, it ages beautifully and can add a lot of value to your home.
Here we share one of our favourite wood flooring specialists and our top picks from their current range!

This is our favourite floor in the current range - Calico. A perfect blend of warm and cool neutral tones. A light oak that doesn’t sacrifice warmth, choose from three variations of Calico, available in wide and extra-wide planks as well as herringbone blocks.
This floor can be used throughout the home as a neutral background to layer on top of. Vintage rugs look right at home paired with this floor. If you're looking for some distinction between rooms, think about mixing up the lay pattern or orientation to give some subtle variation.

Here are some examples of wooden floors being used in beautiful homes. Think about the detailing, angles and light levels to get the most out of your floor. When choosing the finish, you may want to consider the sheen of the varnish/polish too. We’re not fans of high sheen finishes unless you want the school gym floor look!
